Create a table with the page number, line and the correction to be made. Corrections listĬorrections lists are best if you don’t have a lot of changes. If you have replacement text, send us the Word document at the same time. You can either compile a corrections list or send us a pdf scan of your marked-up pages. Return your corrections to your desk editor by email or by secure file transfer by the deadline. Mark on the proofs that you have supplied replacement text. Write the page number that the text is found on as a heading, then write the new text. Collate all changes in one document, in page order. If you are changing more than just a word or two, supply the new text in a Word document. If you have any questions, your desk editor will be happy to help. We have prepared a list of proof correction marks and an example page to help you. Mark your corrections in the text and give details in the margin. Print out your proofs and write your corrections on them. Doing so will delay the publication of your book and you may be charged for the extra typesetting costs. You should not make other changes at revised proof stage. Check the revised proofs to make sure that your changes have been made and read the index for any errors or typos. Your desk editor will send you the revised proofs if you request them. Return the proofs to your desk editor by the deadline, otherwise the publication of your book may be delayed. Please be aware that you cannot rewrite, rephrase or add new material at proof stage. You should look out for spelling or grammatical errors, typos and factual inaccuracies. This is the most important proof stage so please take the time to read through your book in detail, including the prelim pages, references, quotes and bibliography. You should carefully check the first proofs and mark up your changes. You’ll see up to two sets of proofs before we progress to print. Your desk editor will be in touch with the exact schedule closer to the time. You’ll usually receive your proofs around 5 months after submission.

The game is set in an open-world environment called Harran initially, an area named the Slums can be freely explored, later adding a second area called Old Town. The parkour mechanics in Dying Light allow players to leap from one rooftop to another.ĭying Light is a survival horror video game played from a first-person perspective. The sequel, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, was released in February 2022. An expansion, titled Dying Light: The Following, was released in February 2016. Techland committed to supporting the game, and released downloadable content packs, content drops and free updates for the game several years after the initial launch. The game was a commercial success, having sold 20 million units by April 2022. The game was the best-selling title of January 2015 and broke the record for first-month sales of a new survival-horror intellectual property. The game was planned to be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but these versions were cancelled due to hardware limitations.Īt release, Dying Light received positive reviews from critics, with praise mainly directed at the combat, graphics, co-operative multiplayer, navigation and the day–night cycle, while receiving criticism regarding the story, difficulty, and technical issues. Announced in May 2013, it was released in January 2015 for Linux, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. The story was inspired by both Heart of Darkness and The Plague. To create a story that would suit the taste of the American audience, the writing team collaborated with Dan Jolley. To implement that, Techland had to abandon most of the story elements and construct them again from scratch. The game's parkour system puts emphasis on natural movement. The development of the game began in early 2012, after the team completed the development of Dead Island. The game also features an asymmetrical multiplayer mode (originally set to be a pre-order bonus), and a four-player co-operative multiplayer mode. The gameplay is focused on weapons-based combat and parkour, allowing players to choose fight or flight when presented with dangers. It features an enemy-infested, open-world city with a dynamic day–night cycle, in which zombies are slow and clumsy during daytime but become extremely aggressive at night. The game's story follows an undercover agent named Kyle Crane who is sent to infiltrate a quarantine zone in a Middle-eastern city called Harran. Dying Light is a 2015 survival horror video game developed by Techland and published by Warner Bros. According to What to Expect, you can even play peek-a-boo with newborns by covering your face with your hands, because “newborns are fascinated by faces, and your sweet newborn would rather look at your face than almost anything else in the world.” Another variation as your child gets older could be hiding items under pillows and blankets and revealing it "with a flourish," noted the article. You can play this classic game with your baby in a few different ways, depending on their age. The article also suggested that peek-a-boo is a “perfect balance of what your baby knows about the world, what they are able to control, and what they are still surprised by.” Piaget suggested that children “spent the first two years of their lives working out,” the article reported. Fisher notes that before babies hit 6 to 9 months of age, they don't comprehend that something hidden is actually still there and think that if they can't see something, it's gone forever.Īs far as how peek-a-boo affects a baby’s development, Fisher says it is a “demonstration of advancing development in the areas of cognition and visual cues, showing that ‘object permanence’ has been achieved.” According to a BBC Future article, the phenomenon of object permanence came from Swiss developmental psychologist Jean Piaget. To play, one player hides their face, pops back into the view of the other, and says Peekaboo, sometimes followed by I see you There are many variations: for example, where trees are involved, 'Hiding behind that tree' is sometimes added. They start learning that even when something disappears, it can still be there, but hidden,” Posner explains. Peekaboo (also spelled peek-a-boo) is a form of play played with an infant. This is why peek-a-boo is fun for them, and helps stimulate their brain. “Object permanence is a concept that something that is out of sight (i.e., covered) is still there even though they can’t see it. Gina Posner, a pediatrician at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California, tells Romper this all has to do with “object permanence." At about 6 months old, babies start realizing that things that are gone are not necessarily gone forever. Danelle Fisher, pediatrician and vice chair of pediatrics at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, tells Romper that babies love peek-a-boo because “they are interacting with a happy face and it's a game to them - the person disappears and reappears right away and they think it is funny.” So they do think we actually disappear! Dr. Why do babies love peek-a-boo? Do they really think we “disappear?" Is it all just the magic and surprise of us reappearing?ĭr. My favorite part about patty cake was at the end when my parents would “throw it in the pan” and they’d tickle my belly, but peek-a-boo, I’m not so sure. My parents told me that the two games I was obsessed with when I was a baby were patty cake and peek-a-boo. Kifi revolves around bookmarking, search, and collaboration. Here's what I found works or is broken in macOS Catalina and above: Yeah, that repository's README is a little bit outdated. It's a very convenient feature to skim through the files in a folder. If you first select a bunch of files and then hit space, it will loop though your selection when you use the arrow keys. You can use the arrow keys to skim around and the file contents will be quickly displayed. On Mac, you can simply select a single file anywhere and hitting pace will very quickly show you the contents, hit space again and you are back to the folder. So the Windows immigrants get annoyed, naturally. On Windows, when you open a photo by clicking it, you can go to the next/prev one using the arrow keys and on macOS you can't do that. It's good for certain use cases but it doesn't help with quickly going through some files in a large folder. The view of the folder changes completely, so you get disoriented and if it's a large folder you will need t skim through one line of folders to find what you are looking for. Also not very convenient just for quickly viewing bunch of files. Gallery view is pretty new and still needs to be discovered. But generally speaking, macOS on Apple hardware is unmatched by any alternative. What is the f*cking point of cmd-tabbing to an application if you don't make its window visible!? This I have never understood. There are still some things I hate, #1 being that when I cmd-tab to a window which is minimized, it doesn't raise that window. It is in most use cases more performant than my 2017 _much_ higher spec Dell XPS 15 (in Windows or Linux boot mode). Meanwhile, I have lived on my 2014 MBP since 2014, going through multiple OS upgrades in place - no wipes/reinstalls - and find it just as performant as ever. In terms of reliability, every time over the last 20 years (some distant, some recent) where I tried to live with a Linux desktop, things would stop working after a short while. I make the assumption that Quicklook uses Preview (because surely it must).īeing able to hit spacebar on just about any kind of selected document/image type file and see a near instant look, multiple pages and all, is so important. Preview is one of the most underrated pieces of software in the world today. I pretty much do not have any traffic, views or calls now. Posted about my SAB listing a few weeks ago about not showing up in search only when you entered the exact name. (Note that apart from the audio interface, the K2 includes the case/stand free.) Available this month.I Really need some help. Price: £159 (including VAT), so a fair discount on the K2. But K1 and K2 should certainly work nicely as a pair. The K2 is still worth a look, as it adds separate line and headphone outs. (Edited to add that last clarification, in case you haven’t been keeping up – Serato has finally sorted MIDI controller mapping.) The one omission: Serato users are on your own (as I mentioned in the Akai story), in that there’s no template for download, but that should be fixed soon enough – 1.7 allows any MIDI mapping. There are software maps for Ableton Live, Traktor (in different configurations), MixVibes, and so on, but I think I like best a custom overlay PDF so you can make your own. Schade – it’d be great to use other hardware this way, but it does allow easy combination with Allen & Heath mixers or a rather nice combo of the K1 and K2.) These units are also daisy-chainable using Allen & Heath X:LINK over Ethernet cabling, saving you a USB hub and tangled cables. MIDI functionality – nothing proprietary here, driverless I just … heard that somewhere.Ĥ linear faders (these are, to me, the real selling point in feel) So, uh… forget that I just told you it’s the best-feeling slim-line fader controller on the market. It’s a bonus that it feels great and comes with an optional, cute travel case that protects it in your luggage and doubles as a stand.Īctually, I’m saying way too much, as I should ask Allen & Heath to send me a review unit (and maybe… take some time sending it back). I’ve seen more than one live visual performer buy a K2 to run VJ apps – even though it has an audio interface that’s useless to them. It’s the Traktor Kontrol product NI somehow forgot to make themselves.Īnd that same layout lends itself to other software, too. In fact, you’d be forgiven for imagining you’d seen something like the K1 with an NI logo on it, but despite the similar name, the K1 isn’t an NI product. The X1 is closest, but – no faders, and fewer controls. The Z1 is more of a two-channel mixing surface with crossfader the F1 sacrifices controls and opts for short-throw faders to fit a big disco-light grid. But the NI range, while it has lots of handy hardware, just doesn’t offer this particular layout. This is slim and sleek and tidy and tasteful, like NI’s hardware. Or, to put it another way, the Xone:K1 and K2 are good enough that they can take Native Instruments on at their own game. That’s a significant change, but perhaps with the K1 as a satellite to a K2, it isn’t such an issue – or if you don’t mind having one layer for everything. Update: One key difference – you don’t get layers and latching as on the K2, as near as we can figure. And it feels simply fantastic, better than any other hardware on the market (save perhaps for the Faderfox). In that configuration, it fits a whole lot of controls, whereas some slimline controllers might leave you wanting more. It has a no-nonsense layout – faders, backlit buttons, encoders, knobs. But that’s a good thing, because the K2 was already I think one of the best unsung controllers on the market. The K1 is essentially identical to the Xone:K2, minus the K2’s audio interface. If you’ve watched closely, it also shouldn’t look terribly new. Its selling point from the manufacturer is that it’s meant to work with the software you want, the way you want. It isn’t forcing you to some default mapping. And Livid are about to ship a mixer-style controller.Īllen & Heath, for their part, are quick to say they’re making something generic. There are bundle deals on Traktor with NI hardware. So, yes, there’s now Akai gear that will work with Serato and finally gives that tool something slimmer than a house. We’ve certainly had some controller news this month, partly because DJs are lining up for a big event in Atlantic City. Whatever you own now, you may find yourself wanting one of these to go along with it. Spoiler alert – the K1, like the K2 before it, feels great, has a terrific layout, works with anything you like, and more or less beats every other slim-line controller for DJing or VJing. But that’s a pity, because they make one of the most compelling controller units on the market. UK DJ builder Allen & Heath may be best known as a mixer company, not so much a controller maker. Working at Apple is great and gives you a new set of skills when it comes to customer service standards. Make an appointment for your broken device, or learn about your new device - more. My favorite part of this job on the customer facing side is that there is no cost to anyone for any services we offer in the store (at least upfront). We even have business opportunities to teach employees how to assist small/medium business with their tech needs and opportunities that Apple might assist with. These experiences can lead to becoming a Genius (Mac Hardware/Software certifications), a Leader (management experience opportunities, leading different areas of the store), performing visual management (set up new products on display, organize the store, etc), or managing inventory and bring products to our peers for sales. At that point, your day would consist of managing appointments for the technical side of things (Genius Bar), or taking appointments for Mobile devices. That might be selling, managing appointments, or helping teach new customers about their product.Īs you become more experienced in the store, or partner with a Leader to express interest, you may be developed to assist with technical support on iOS devices. I have seen countless new hires go from borderline entirely introverted in a social setting to blossoming into a whole new version of themselves after 6 months of working in Apple Retail.Ī typical day at work involves checking various forms of communication about any information that might be coming down the pipeline, connecting with your peers and friends, and performing whatever task you are assigned to for the day. Our son and daughter are both older, and we never threw big expensive birthday parties for them. I think our daughter should just choose 10 friends maximum, and we can have them run around our backyard, or pick fewer friends and we can have them go to laser tag (the local laser tag place has birthday parties for eight kids for about half of what the bouncy castle place would cost). My wife really wants to let her do it, but I’m not sure. It’s not that we can’t afford it, but I’d really rather our money go to something else. This place is very expensive to rent out, and there’s a flat rate, so even if some kids can’t make it, we’d be paying the full price. Her birthday is in about two months, but she’s been talking nonstop about having her party at an indoor bouncy house facility. How can we guide her out of this phase in a way that isn’t so annoying for her siblings? My husband thinks the solution is to have the twins have some dedicated time with their sister, and then the rest of the time would be for them to do what they want, whether it’s with their sister or not, but this seems like a bad idea for me-I’m not sure how well a toddler would understand this. At the same time, trying to get the twins to set boundaries with her has had mixed results-her brother in particular goes a bit overboard, yelling “shut up and go away!” or that sort of thing, something we’re also working on. We’re getting her to work on knocking so that she doesn’t barge into their bedroom, but anytime one of them is doing something without her, or god forbid the two of them are doing something together, she needs to be included. Both of the older kids get very annoyed by her. She wants to be included in everything that they do. Our younger daughter is going through a phase of wanting to do everything like her big siblings. My husband and I have 6-year-old boy-girl twins and a 3-year-old daughter. |
